NEET PG 2026 Shock: 2,445 Candidates Must Retake Exam After Jaipur Centre Power Failure

NEW DELHI: The National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences, or NBEMS, has announced a re-examination for 2,445 candidates whose NEET PG 2026 test could not be completed after a power-related disruption hit two examination centres in Jaipur’s Sitapura area on August 30. The re-test will be held on September 5 in Jaipur, offering affected students another chance to complete the high-stakes postgraduate medical entrance examination.

What happened at the Sitapura centres?

According to the official Ministry of Health and Family Welfare release, the examination could not be completed for candidates at iON Digital Zone iDZ Sitapura centres TC Nos. 41682 and 41683 because of internal power supply issues.

The Sitapura centre glitch affected only these two Jaipur centres, not the nationwide examination. The NBEMS notice attributed the internal power supply issue to M/s TCS Ltd., the examination conducting agency, and said the Board regretted the inconvenience caused to candidates.

September 5 re-exam confirmed

The official NEET PG re-exam date is September 5, 2026, with the test scheduled for 3 pm in Jaipur. NBEMS said it would communicate venue details and other examination-related instructions separately to affected candidates, and it would also issue revised admit cards.

The decision applies to all 2,445 candidates affected by the disruption. Reports citing the official announcement confirmed that the NEET PG re-exam date is limited to those candidates whose original examination could not be completed at the two Sitapura centres. The Indian Express reported that the nationwide examination proceeded successfully for the overwhelming majority of candidates.

Over 2.65 lakh candidates appeared nationwide

NEET PG 2026 was scheduled for 273,096 candidates at 1,111 centres across 339 cities, covering all 36 states and Union Territories. According to the government’s official figures, 265,980 candidates appeared for the examination, and approximately 263,535 completed it.

The 2,445 affected candidates represent those who could not complete their examination because of the Sitapura centre glitch. The government said the disruption was an unforeseen incident, while the rest of the nationwide examination was conducted as planned.

What affected candidates need to know

For affected candidates, the NEET PG re-exam date means another appearance in Jaipur rather than a nationwide cancellation or re-test. India Today reported that the original disruption prevented some candidates from completing the computer-based examination.

NBEMS has said it will separately communicate the re-examination venue and issue revised admit cards. Meanwhile, NEET PG 2026 remains valid for candidates whose examinations were completed, with the September 5 test restricted to those affected at the two Jaipur centres.
