CCTV Shows 14-Year-Old Boy Attacking Girl in UK Shop After Rejection
A 14-year-old boy has been sentenced after repeatedly attacking a teenage girl with a knife inside a shop in Cirencester, Gloucestershire, in an assault captured on CCTV.
The boy, who is from Wiltshire and cannot be named for legal reasons, pleaded guilty to wounding with intent, inflicting grievous bodily harm without intent and possessing a bladed article in a public place.
At a youth court hearing at Bristol Crown Court on September 21, he was given a 12-month referral order and a three-year restraining order.
The attack happened on the morning of March 15, when the boy was waiting near a shop on Upper Churnside in Cirencester. Police said he entered the shop after seeing the 14-year-old girl go inside to buy a drink. He had a kitchen knife concealed in his jeans.
The court heard that the boy had become fixated on the girl at their school after she rejected his advances in December 2025. He subsequently used fake social media accounts to send her messages.
Inside the shop, the boy grabbed the girl and struck her repeatedly with the knife.
A shopkeeper tried to intervene and pull him away. The teenager then struck the shopkeeper in the back with the knife before the girl managed to escape from the store and raise the alarm at a neighbouring property.
The girl suffered cuts to her neck, hands and face, as well as bruising to her back. The shopkeeper sustained a cut to his back.
The boy fled the scene but was found by police nearby. Officers searched him and found a knife in his jeans pocket. He also had a fresh cut on his hand.
CCTV captured the attack
Police later released CCTV footage from inside the shop showing the attack.
Detective Superintendent Ian Fletcher, head of serious and complex investigations at Gloucestershire Constabulary, described it as a frenzied attack carried out in broad daylight.
He said the girl was fortunate to escape with minor physical injuries, adding that the incident could have had a fatal outcome.
Police have not established a precise number of knife strikes from the footage, although subsequent court reporting said the CCTV appeared to show numerous attempts to stab the girl.
The shopkeeper was praised by police for intervening during the assault and helping create an opportunity for the girl to escape.
Girl describes lasting effects
In a victim personal statement read to the court, the girl described continuing fear and anxiety following the attack.
She said she had experienced nightmares and that she now became frightened when people moved their hands near her. She also said she was being dropped off at work because she did not want to be outside alone.
The statement described an impact that extended beyond the physical injuries suffered during the attack.
The girl said she had not experienced those fears before the incident and that she was concerned about how it would affect her ability to trust people.
Police investigation and arrest
Police were initially called to Upper Churnside at about 11.15 am on March 15 following a report of a stabbing.
At the time, officers said a teenage girl and an adult man had suffered minor injuries and were treated at the scene. A 14-year-old boy from Wiltshire was arrested nearby on suspicion of attempted murder.
The investigation subsequently led to the criminal charges to which the teenager pleaded guilty.
The boy’s age means his identity is protected under UK law, and REPORTIVA is not naming him.
Court sentence
The teenager appeared before Bristol Crown Court sitting as a youth court on September 21.
He received a 12-month referral order and a three-year restraining order after admitting the three offences.
The court’s proceedings followed several months after the March attack, during which the case moved from the initial police investigation to prosecution and sentencing.
Detective Superintendent Fletcher said after the sentencing that he hoped that the victim would be able to recover from what had happened and rebuild her life.
The case also illustrates how quickly an incident involving young people can escalate from unwanted contact and online messaging to serious physical violence. In this case, the court heard that the boy had continued contacting the girl through fake social-media accounts after she rejected his advances.
For the victim, the consequences have continued well beyond the day of the attack. While her physical injuries were described as minor, her statement to the court detailed ongoing fear, nightmares, and changes to her everyday routine.
The boy remains subject to the restraining order imposed by the court.
