Vivo X500 Pro Max Design Revealed Ahead of China Launch
Vivo has given the first official look at the X500 Pro Max, revealing the design of its next flagship smartphone less than two weeks before the company’s September 21 launch event in China.
The images show a large circular camera module on the rear, a two-tone design and at least two colour options. Vivo has also shown the phone alongside dedicated imaging accessories, including a telephoto extender and a professional photography grip.
The X500 series launch is scheduled for September 21 at 7 p.m. local time in China. The lineup is expected to include the standard X500, X500 Pro and X500 Pro Max.
Camera design takes centre stage
The X500 Pro Max’s rear design is dominated by a large circular camera island. The official images show three camera sensors within the module, with ZEISS branding positioned prominently in the centre. The LED flash sits separately near the upper-left portion of the rear panel.
The phone has been shown in silver and orange finishes, although Vivo has not yet published a complete list of colours or retail configurations.
The overall camera arrangement bears a resemblance to the design language used on Vivo’s previous high-end X-series camera phones. But the company is also positioning the X500 Pro Max as more than a conventional camera-focused smartphone.
Vivo product vice president Huang Tao said the company’s goal for the generation is to make the phone a first choice for photography and a primary device for video creation. The company says the X500 series is intended to extend its focus from still photography into video.
400mm telephoto extender confirmed
One of the more unusual accessories shown with the X500 Pro Max is a dedicated telephoto extender.
Reports based on Vivo’s latest images identify it as a 400mm ZEISS telephoto extender, similar to the accessory introduced with the company’s X300 Ultra. Android Authority reported that the X500 Pro Max will support the 400mm extender, while Chinese technology publication IT Home also reported the inclusion of a telephoto extender and professional imaging grip.
The accessory is significant because it suggests Vivo is continuing to push the X-series beyond computational photography and toward a more modular camera system.
Vivo has also previously confirmed that the X500 Pro Max will use a 200-megapixel telephoto camera based on Samsung’s HP0 sensor, according to reports covering the company’s camera teasers. The sensor is reported to measure 1/1.4-inch.
That specification is among the confirmed or officially teased camera details. Other specifications circulating online should still be treated cautiously because Vivo has not published the complete X500 Pro Max specification sheet.
Video is a major focus
Vivo’s announcements around the X500 Pro series have placed considerable emphasis on video recording.
The company has promoted capabilities including 4K 240fps slow-motion video and 4K 120fps HDR recording. The Pro series has also been associated with professional Log video recording and enhanced stabilisation.
Vivo has said the X500 Pro series will use its new Blueprint imaging technology, including a sensor referred to as the Blueprint Light and Shadow 900 in Chinese-language coverage. The company has promoted a claimed dynamic range of up to 17 stops for the sensor system.
Those numbers are manufacturer claims rather than independent test results. Real-world image and video quality will only be possible to assess after retail hardware becomes available for testing.
What about the rest of the specifications?
A number of specifications have circulated through leaks and technology databases, including a large high-refresh-rate display, a MediaTek Dimensity 9600 Pro processor, a large battery and a triple rear-camera system.
However, there is disagreement between currently available databases and reports over some of those specifications. For example, Gadgets 360 currently lists a 6.85-inch display, 12GB RAM, 256GB storage, a 7,000mAh battery and Android 16 as the device’s reported specifications, while other databases list different memory, battery and software configurations.
Those details should therefore not be treated as final specifications until Vivo publishes them.
The same caution applies to pricing. Several websites have published estimated India prices, but Vivo has not announced an official Indian price for the X500 Pro Max. There is also no confirmed India launch date at the time of publication.
China launch comes first
For now, the only confirmed launch event is in China on September 21.
Vivo has not announced an official India launch date for the X500 Pro Max. Reports have suggested that the series could eventually reach other markets, but those timelines remain unconfirmed.
That leaves the September event as the key date for the remaining questions around the phone, including its full specifications, pricing, availability and final accessory lineup.
The X500 Pro Max is clearly being positioned around mobile imaging, with its large camera system, 200-megapixel telephoto hardware and support for an external 400mm extender. Whether those features translate into a meaningful advantage over rival flagship phones will depend on the company’s final software, image processing, and real-world performance.
For now, Vivo has confirmed the design and launch date. The rest of the picture will become clearer when the X500 series officially debuts on September 21.
