MLY vs UAE 2nd T20I Live: Malaysia Make Fast Start in Kuala Lumpur
Malaysia made an aggressive start against the United Arab Emirates in the second T20I of the three-match series, reaching 68 for 1 after six overs at Bayuemas Oval in Kuala Lumpur on Wednesday.
The hosts won the toss and elected to bat first, looking to respond after UAE won the series opener by six wickets on September 14. The second match began at 10 a.m. local time, or 7:30 a.m. IST.
At the end of the sixth over, Nazmus Sakib was unbeaten on 31 from 16 balls, while captain Syed Aziz was 32 not out from 14 balls. Their partnership had given Malaysia considerable momentum after the early dismissal of Muhammad Haziq Aiman.
Sakib produced the biggest burst of scoring in the sixth over, hitting Aayan Afzal Khan for two sixes and a four. Malaysia finished the over at 68/1, with a current run rate of 11.33.
Malaysia Lose Early Wicket
Malaysia’s first wicket fell when Muhammad Haziq Aiman was dismissed for five by Ibrar Ahmad in the second over. The wicket came with Malaysia on five runs.
Sakib and Syed Aziz then took control of the innings. Syed Aziz attacked Muhammad Mohsin in the fifth over, hitting him for a six and two fours as Malaysia moved from 30/1 to 46/1 by the end of the over.
The rapid scoring has put Malaysia in a strong position at the current stage of the innings, although the hosts still have 14 overs remaining and UAE have their full complement of wickets available apart from the early breakthrough.
UAE Lead the Series
The second T20I carries added significance because UAE won the opening match in convincing fashion.
Malaysia scored 144/6 from their 20 overs in the first game. UAE chased down the target with 150/4 in 16.5 overs, winning by six wickets.
The standout performer was UAE all-rounder Khuzaima Tanveer, who scored 68 from 29 balls and also took two wickets for 22 runs. His innings included four fours and seven sixes.
Aayan Afzal Khan also played an important role with the ball, taking three wickets for 18 runs as Malaysia struggled to turn a competitive start into a larger total.
The result gave UAE a 1-0 lead in the series and put Malaysia under pressure to level the contest in Kuala Lumpur.
A Three-Match Series in Kuala Lumpur
The series is being played entirely at Bayuemas Oval, with the first match held on September 14, the second on September 16, and the third scheduled for September 17.
The Emirates Cricket Board confirmed the schedule before the series and named Harpreet Singh Bhatia as UAE captain. The 15-member UAE squad also includes Aayan Afzal Khan, Khuzaima Tanveer, Rahul Chopra, Tanish Suri and several other players who featured in the opening match.
This is the first bilateral T20I series between Malaysia and the UAE. The teams had previously met in T20I cricket, including their meeting in the 2025 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Asia-EAP Qualifier.
What Happens Next
Malaysia will continue its first innings with Sakib and Syed Aziz at the crease. UAE will be looking for another breakthrough after Ibrar Ahmad removed Haziq Aiman early.
The immediate target for Malaysia will be to convert its fast start into a substantial total over the remaining 14 overs. UAE, meanwhile, will need to contain the scoring rate and take wickets before the innings reaches its closing stages.
The match is still in progress, so the final score, result and individual performances cannot yet be confirmed.
