DUSU Election Results 2026: ABVP Wins Three Key Posts, Independent Candidate Takes Vice-President Seat
NEW DELHI: The DUSU election results 2026 have delivered a strong showing for the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), which won three of the four central posts in the Delhi University Students’ Union elections. ABVP’s Yash Dabas was elected President, while independent candidate Deepanshu Shokeen secured the Vice-President post.
The results were declared on Saturday, September 19, after 20 rounds of counting. The ABVP DUSU victory included the President, Secretary and Joint Secretary positions, while Shokeen’s win prevented a complete sweep.
Yash Dabas Wins Presidential Contest
ABVP’s Yash Dabas won the President’s post with 24,576 votes, defeating NSUI candidate Vijay Shankar Meena, who received 22,523 votes. Dabas therefore secured the presidency by a margin of 2,053 votes.
The Yash Dabas President result came after a closely contested race involving candidates from ABVP, NSUI, the AISA-SFI alliance and other groups. Dabas emerged ahead after the final round of counting.
The outcome gives ABVP control of the union’s most prominent post and two other central positions. It also extends the organisation’s strong presence in Delhi University student politics.
ABVP Takes Three Of Four Posts
The ABVP DUSU victory was completed with Riya Chhawdi winning the Secretary position and Lakshya Raj Singh taking the Joint Secretary post.
Chhawdi secured 21,650 votes for Secretary, while Singh won the Joint Secretary position with 16,615 votes, according to the final results. The three victories gave ABVP a clear majority on the four-member central panel.
The result comes days after concerns over student accommodation and campus safety received renewed attention following the Satya Niketan building collapse, in which seven people died.
Independent Deepanshu Shokeen Delivers Major Upset
The biggest surprise in the DUSU election results 2026 came in the Vice-President contest.
Independent candidate Deepanshu Shokeen won the post with 30,615 votes. ABVP’s Ishu Maurya finished second with 16,910 votes, while NSUI’s Virr Chatrath received 4,313 votes.
Shokeen’s margin over Maurya was 13,705 votes. His victory was particularly significant because he had previously been associated with NSUI but contested the election as an independent candidate.
According to the Indian Express, Shokeen’s victory marked the first time in 17 years that an independent candidate won a central-panel position in the DUSU elections.
NSUI Draws A Blank
The Yash Dabas President victory was accompanied by a complete failure for NSUI to secure any of the four central posts.
The Congress-backed student organisation had candidates in the major contests but finished without a central-panel win. The result represents a significant setback for NSUI, while the ABVP DUSU victory strengthens its position in the university’s student politics.
The elections recorded a turnout of 40.46%, with polling held on September 18. More than 1.51 lakh students were eligible to vote.
The final DUSU election results 2026 therefore present a mixed picture: ABVP retains control of three major posts, but Shokeen’s decisive independent victory introduces an unexpected element into the new student union leadership.
