Samsung One UI 9 Update: Android 17 Features and Eligible Galaxy Phones

Samsung One UI 9 Update Android 17 Features and Eligible Galaxy Phones

Samsung has started the stable rollout of One UI 9, its latest Android-based software for Galaxy devices, with the Galaxy S26, Galaxy S26+ and Galaxy S26 Ultra among the first smartphones to receive the update.

The rollout began in South Korea on September 16 and is expanding to other markets in phases. Samsung’s Canadian newsroom has also confirmed a September 21 rollout for the Galaxy S26 series, while Samsung’s Singapore announcement says its rollout begins September 21. Availability can vary by country, carrier, and device.

One UI 9 is based on Android 17 and follows several months of beta testing. Samsung launched the One UI 9 beta for Galaxy S26 users in May, including participants in India, the United States, South Korea, and several European markets.

What is new in One UI 9

Samsung is putting a strong emphasis on Galaxy AI and features designed to reduce the amount of manual work users need to do on their phones.

One of the more visible additions is My FanCam, which can automatically track a selected person in a recorded video and keep that person centered in the frame. Samsung says the feature can be useful for recordings such as performances, sporting events, and other moving subjects.

The update also expands Now Brief, Samsung’s personalized information feature. One UI 9 introduces Generative and Editable Cards that allow users to customize some of the information displayed in their daily briefings, including areas such as health, weather and video. Samsung notes that availability can vary depending on the device, region, language, and other factors.

Another addition is a Warranty and Care section integrated into Settings. On supported devices and markets, users can check warranty information, run diagnostics, view repair estimates and manage Samsung Care+ or service appointments from the device.

Samsung is also expanding Scam Detection to additional countries and languages. The feature is intended to help identify potential scam calls, although Samsung’s documentation makes clear that feature availability varies by market.

One UI 9 also brings security changes

One UI 9 includes changes to the way Galaxy devices handle lock-screen authentication.

Samsung’s India support documentation says devices launched with One UI 9 have stricter protections against repeated password, PIN or pattern guessing. The company says the maximum number of unlock attempts has been reduced, with notifications intended to show users how many attempts remain. Exceeding the permitted attempts can result in the device being permanently locked and requiring a factory reset.

That change makes remembering the device’s authentication credentials particularly important for One UI 9 users.

Which Galaxy phones are getting One UI 9?

The initial stable rollout is focused on Samsung’s newest flagship devices. The Galaxy S26, Galaxy S26+ and Galaxy S26 Ultra are receiving the software as the rollout expands beyond its South Korean debut.

Samsung’s latest foldable phones — the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, Galaxy Z Fold8 and Galaxy Z Flip8 — already launched with One UI 9, according to Samsung. The Galaxy S26 FE also arrived with the new software.

Samsung has separately expanded the One UI 9 beta program to additional devices, including the Galaxy Z Fold7, Galaxy Z Flip7, Galaxy S25 series and Galaxy S25 FE in selected markets. That beta expansion is an indication of the wider device rollout Samsung is preparing, but a beta listing should not be treated as confirmation that every listed device has received the stable update.

For older Galaxy phones, Samsung is expected to continue the rollout in stages. Samsung Thailand’s newsroom information, reported by SamMobile, indicates September 28 for the Galaxy S25 series and Galaxy Z Fold7/Z Flip7, with the Galaxy S23 FE listed for October. However, the reporting also cautions that those dates may apply specifically to Thailand and could change in other markets.

What about One UI 9 in India?

India was one of the markets included in Samsung’s One UI 9 beta program for the Galaxy S26 series, making Indian users part of the early testing process.

Samsung’s India support pages have also begun providing One UI 9 information, including documentation covering the new lock-screen security policy. However, a complete India-wide stable rollout schedule for every eligible Galaxy model was not available in the Samsung sources reviewed for this report.

That distinction matters because Samsung normally releases major software updates in stages. The same phone can receive an update at different times depending on the country, carrier, and software variant.

How to check for One UI 9

Galaxy owners can manually check whether the update has reached their device by opening Settings > Software Update > Download and Install.

Samsung’s support documentation says users should check the Software Update section of Settings and notes that features and availability can differ by device, carrier and network.

Users should also avoid assuming that an update appearing on another Galaxy phone means it is immediately available on their own device. Samsung’s rollout is staged, and the company says schedules can change if issues are identified during the rollout process.

One UI 9 rollout is still expanding

The stable release marks the end of the initial beta phase, but Samsung’s One UI 9 rollout is far from complete. The company is expanding the software from its newest phones to additional Galaxy smartphones and tablets over time.

For Galaxy S26 owners, the update brings the first stable version of Samsung’s Android 17-based interface, along with new AI-powered features, customization tools, and device-management functions. Owners of older Galaxy models will have to wait for their particular device and market to enter Samsung’s rollout schedule.

The exact timing remains dependent on Samsung’s regional deployment and device-specific testing. Samsung itself advises that supported models and schedules can change during the update process.
