Aastha Kunj Park Gangrape Probe: Former Police Informer Among Three Accused in Delhi Teen Case
NEW DELHI: The investigation into the alleged gang-rape of a 17-year-old girl at Aastha Kunj Park in Southeast Delhi has revealed that one of the three accused, Asif, 34, had previously worked as a police informer in the district. All three men were arrested by Tuesday morning, after the alleged assault on Monday evening, according to The Indian Express.
The latest Delhi teen gangrape police informer accused development adds a new detail to a case that has drawn scrutiny over how the suspects were identified and how security was maintained inside the large Delhi Development Authority-managed park. The Delhi park safety Southeast district crime concerns have also widened beyond the arrests.
Former Informer’s Past Helped Police Identify Him
Police personnel recognised Asif from the description given by the teenager and her male friend. Investigators then used technical surveillance and local intelligence to trace him after his phone was switched off, with police locating him at a DDA park before his arrest early Tuesday.
DCP (South-East) Vineet Kumar said police staff had details of local troublemakers and that Asif’s details were already available to them. The latest Aastha Kunj Park gangrape probe update also indicates that investigators are examining whether his earlier proximity to police had any bearing on his activities in the area.
Police have not said that his former informer role gave him official protection. An officer cited in the investigation said anyone found involved would face action under law.
Three Accused Arrested As Investigation Continues
Asif was allegedly shot in the leg during a police encounter after officers said he opened fire at them. A firearm was recovered, and he was taken for medical treatment before questioning.
The other two accused, identified as Hemant, a lawyer, and his brother Mukesh, a B.Sc. student, were subsequently arrested. Police are investigating the individual roles of all three men and reconstructing the sequence surrounding the alleged assault.
According to investigators, the three men allegedly posed as police personnel and used police terminology while confronting the teenager and her friend inside the park. The Delhi teen gangrape police informer accused investigation remains ongoing, and the allegations against the arrested men have not been tested in court.
Park Security Gaps Draw Fresh Scrutiny
The case has intensified concerns about Delhi park safety Southeast district crime conditions at Aastha Kunj Park. The park covers about 142 acres and has 29 gates, while police and guards have raised concerns about dark stretches, damaged boundary sections and difficulties monitoring its interconnected paths.
A September 23 report found that a guard cabin near the alleged crime spot had no electricity. Police also said there were no CCTV cameras inside the park and that most cameras at its entry gates were non-functional. The DDA disputed the broader assessment of lighting, saying its installations were functional and regularly inspected.
Following the incident, Delhi Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu ordered a safety audit of parks across the capital, covering lighting, security, patrolling and cleanliness.
The latest Aastha Kunj Park gangrape probe update therefore covers two parallel questions: the criminal case against the three accused and the security arrangements at the park where the alleged assault took place.
The Delhi park safety Southeast district crime angle is likely to remain part of the official review. For now, the arrests are confirmed, while the investigation into the alleged offence, the accused persons’ individual roles and any earlier incidents remains underway.
