Delhi Slap Row Escalates After Parvesh Singh Viral Video as AAP-BJP Clash Intensif
NEW DELHI: Delhi’s political dispute over a viral road-inspection video intensified on Monday, September 28, after police filed a non-cognisable report against Public Works Department Minister Parvesh Sahib Singh Verma following a complaint by a 22-year-old man who alleged he was slapped. Police also registered an FIR against AAP MLA Jarnail Singh over allegations of obstructing public servants.
The Parvesh Singh viral video shows Verma appearing to pull down the mobile phone of a man recording the inspection before striking him. The incident occurred during an inspection of road work in the Vikaspuri-Tilak Nagar area of west Delhi on Sunday, September 27.
What Happened During The Road Inspection
Verma was inspecting construction work on a stretch of the Outer Ring Road when Jarnail Singh and others arrived at the site. AAP leaders questioned the quality of the newly laid road, with Singh shown in footage pulling out a portion of its surface by hand.
The Delhi AAP minister slap controversy began after the young man, identified as Sahib Singh, recorded the exchange. The video then spread widely on social media, prompting AAP leaders to demand police action against Verma.
Sahib Singh later submitted a complaint alleging that the minister assaulted and threatened him. Delhi Police initially said it was verifying the allegations before taking further action.
Police Register Reports Against Both Sides
By September 28, the police position had changed. Officials said an NCR had been filed against Verma under Section 115 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, relating to voluntarily causing hurt.
At the same time, an FIR was registered against Jarnail Singh following a complaint from a PWD assistant engineer alleging obstruction of public servants in the discharge of their duties. The police action means both sides are now part of separate proceedings arising from the same dispute.
The Kejriwal Parvesh Verma row also intensified after AAP national convenor Arvind Kejriwal demanded Verma’s dismissal and arrest. Kejriwal later visited Tilak Nagar and questioned the quality of the road construction, while calling for action if corruption was established.
Verma Gives His Version Of The Incident
Verma has not disputed that the physical confrontation occurred, but he has contested the context presented by the circulating clip. In a video message, he said people associated with AAP had abused his family and alleged that his reaction came after the confrontation escalated. He also described the man as an AAP worker and referred to a previous assault case involving him.
The Parvesh Singh viral video therefore remains central to the dispute, but the circumstances immediately preceding the incident are being described differently by the minister and his political opponents.
AAP leaders have rejected Verma’s account and said the young man was recording the inspection rather than provoking the minister. The Delhi AAP minister slap controversy is now being examined alongside the allegations concerning the road project and the conduct of people at the site.
Political Fight Widens In Delhi
The Kejriwal Parvesh Verma row has since expanded into a broader clash between Delhi’s ruling BJP and opposition AAP, with protests and competing complaints from both camps.
As the police proceedings continue, the available video establishes that a physical confrontation occurred, while allegations about the events leading up to it remain disputed. The Parvesh Singh viral video, the police reports and the competing versions from AAP and BJP are now at the centre of the controversy.
