Pakistani TikTok creator Shamso Bibi, known online as Ayesha Gilamana, was shot dead in Taxila on August 14, with police investigating the circumstances surrounding the killing.
Bibi, 28, was travelling in a car with her younger sister and brother when two men on a motorcycle reportedly opened fire near a petrol station in the Taxila area, according to reports based on the police complaint filed by her father. A bullet struck Bibi in the neck, and she died at the scene. Her sister was seriously injured after the vehicle crashed following the shooting.
The incident happened in Taxila, a city in Punjab’s Rawalpindi District, rather than Islamabad itself, although the area is close to the capital.
What happened to Shamso Bibi?
According to the complaint cited by multiple reports, Bibi had received a phone call before leaving home with her siblings. Her father told police that she had been involved in financial dealings with individuals he named in the complaint and had allegedly received threats connected to demands for repayment.
Those claims are part of the family’s account of the case and have not established the motive for the killing.
The attackers reportedly approached the vehicle on a motorcycle and opened fire. The shooting caused Bibi to lose control of the car, which then collided with another vehicle. Her teenage sister was injured in the crash and was taken for medical treatment.
Police registered a murder case and began investigating the shooting, including the identities and possible roles of people named in the complaint.
Police investigation continues
The number of people detained in connection with the case has not been consistently reported.
IBTimes UK reported on August 18 that four suspects had been arrested, while a Times of India report published on August 19 said police had detained three people. The reports do not provide enough information to establish whether the difference reflects separate stages of the investigation or different descriptions of the people taken into custody.
The central question remains who carried out the shooting and why Bibi was targeted.
Reports have linked the investigation to allegations of a financial dispute. Bibi’s father identified several people in his complaint and alleged that his daughter had previously faced threats. Those allegations have not been established in court, and the involvement of the named individuals remains a matter for investigators to determine.
Bibi’s life as a social media creator
Bibi had built a substantial following on TikTok under the name Ayesha Gilamana. Reports put her TikTok following at about 1.3 million, although the account’s current status and follower figures cannot be independently established from the available reporting.
The Times of India reported that she had been creating content for roughly three to four years and also had about 176,000 YouTube subscribers.
Her death has drawn attention online because it follows other cases involving violence against women with public social-media profiles in Pakistan. However, there is currently no verified evidence establishing that Bibi’s killing was motivated by her work as a TikTok creator.
That distinction matters as investigators examine the circumstances of the attack.
What remains unknown
Police have yet to publicly establish a confirmed motive for the killing based on the sources reviewed for this report.
The identities of the two people who allegedly opened fire also remain unresolved in the available reporting. Claims involving financial disputes and named individuals come from the family’s police complaint and should not be treated as findings of guilt.
The investigation is continuing.
