Sonarika Bhadoria Defends Katrina Kaif After Postpartum Body-Shaming
Television actor Sonarika Bhadoria has spoken out against the online scrutiny surrounding Katrina Kaif’s appearance after childbirth, arguing that postpartum women should not be judged by how quickly their bodies return to a pre-pregnancy appearance.
Bhadoria, known for playing Goddess Parvati in Devon Ke Dev…Mahadev, shared a message on Instagram addressing the criticism faced by Kaif following the actor’s recent public appearance in Mumbai. Her comments were framed more broadly as a defence of mothers dealing with physical changes after pregnancy, rather than only as a response to criticism of Kaif.
“This isn’t just about Katrina. It’s about every mother judged while her body is still healing,” Bhadoria wrote in an Instagram Story, according to reports by Hindustan Times and NDTV.
“Her body grew, carried and delivered a human being. It doesn’t owe anyone an explanation for what it looks like afterwards,” she added.
Sonarika Bhadoria’s message to postpartum mothers
Bhadoria later shared a longer post on her Instagram feed, continuing her criticism of comments about women’s bodies after childbirth.
“Your postpartum body is not your shame – it is your story, your strength, your proof,” she wrote, according to NDTV. In another part of the message, she urged new mothers to remember that their bodies are not “ruined” or something for which they should apologise.
Hindustan Times reported that Bhadoria also challenged the expectation that women should go through pregnancy and motherhood while somehow emerging physically unchanged.
“A postpartum body is not a failed version of a woman’s old body. It is evidence,” she wrote, according to the publication.
Her comments carry an additional personal context. Bhadoria and her husband, Vikas Parashar, welcomed their daughter, Virika Parashar, on December 5, 2025. The couple later announced their daughter’s name publicly.
Why Katrina Kaif became the focus of online discussion
The discussion began after Kaif made a rare public appearance with her husband, actor Vicky Kaushal, at the Ambani family’s Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations in Mumbai.
Kaif and Kaushal attended the celebrations at the Ambani residence, Antilia, in traditional attire. The appearance attracted considerable attention online, including comments about Kaif’s physical appearance following the birth of her first child.
Reports from India Today and The Times of India said some social-media users criticised or compared Kaif’s post-pregnancy appearance with how she looked before motherhood, while other users pushed back against those comments and defended the actor.
Kaif and Kaushal welcomed their first child in November 2025. Kaif had largely stayed away from public appearances during the period following the birth, making the Mumbai event one of her more visible appearances since becoming a mother.
The wider conversation around postpartum appearance
The reaction to Kaif’s appearance has revived a familiar discussion around the expectations placed on women in the public eye after pregnancy.
Postpartum recovery does not follow a universal timetable. NDTV’s health coverage of the discussion noted that pregnancy and childbirth can bring physical changes involving body composition, abdominal muscles, hormones, sleep and recovery, and that weight change varies from person to person.
That context has been reflected in much of the response to the criticism of Kaif. Fans and other social-media users have argued that a new mother’s appearance should not be treated as a public measure of whether she has “recovered” from pregnancy.
Bhadoria’s intervention has therefore shifted the focus from Kaif alone to the broader issue of how postpartum women are discussed publicly.
“Let her heal in peace,” Bhadoria wrote in her longer message, according to Hindustan Times. “You can always choose to say NOTHING. But if you do say something, make sure it doesn’t become another wound someone has to carry.”
Sonarika’s own experience of motherhood
Bhadoria’s comments come months after she herself became a mother. She and Parashar announced the birth of their daughter in December 2025 and later introduced her publicly as Virika Parashar.
That experience forms part of the context behind her decision to speak about postpartum body scrutiny, although her statements were explicitly directed at the wider treatment of mothers rather than presented simply as a personal comparison with Kaif.
For Kaif, the recent controversy has followed one of her first prominent public appearances since becoming a mother. For Bhadoria, the episode became an opportunity to argue that the physical changes associated with motherhood should not become a subject of public judgment.
There is no indication from the available reporting that Kaif herself has publicly responded to the body-shaming discussion. The immediate public response has instead come from supporters, fans and other entertainment personalities, including Bhadoria.
The online conversation continues to centre on a question that extends beyond one celebrity: whether women who have recently given birth should be expected to meet the same appearance standards they faced before pregnancy.
