Who can apply for INI CET 2027?

The examination is used for admission to postgraduate programmes including MD, MS, six-year DM, six-year MCh, MDS and MD in Hospital Administration, subject to the course-specific eligibility requirements.

For medical programmes, applicants generally need an MBBS degree from an institution recognised by the National Medical Commission. Candidates applying for MDS need a recognised BDS qualification. Applicants must also meet the prescribed internship and registration requirements.

For Indian graduates, the reported minimum aggregate requirement is 55% for General, OBC, and EWS candidates, while candidates belonging to the SC and ST categories require at least 50%, subject to the detailed conditions in the official prospectus. Candidates must also possess the applicable registration certificate.

The internship requirement is also important for applicants planning to join the January 2027 session. Current information on the eligibility criteria states that the required 12-month compulsory rotatory internship must be completed by January 31, 2027.

Candidates should check the official information brochure for any course-specific provisions before submitting their applications.

Application fee

The application fee for General, OBC, foreign national, OCI and sponsored candidates is ₹4,000. Candidates belonging to the SC, ST and EWS categories are required to pay ₹3,200.

Candidates classified as Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD) are exempt from the application fee, according to the published examination information.

The fee is paid online as part of the application process.

Exam pattern

The INI CET January 2027 examination will be conducted in computer-based test (CBT) mode.

The test is scheduled to have 200 objective questions and a total duration of 180 minutes. The marking scheme provides one mark for a correct answer and a deduction of one-third of a mark for an incorrect answer.

The examination is divided into sequential sections, with candidates required to complete each section within its allotted time. Reports on the current examination pattern indicate four sections of 50 questions each, with 45 minutes allocated to each section.

Participating institutes

INI CET is used for postgraduate admissions across the participating Institutes of National Importance. The January 2027 counselling process includes AIIMS institutions as well as JIPMER Puducherry, NIMHANS Bengaluru, PGIMER Chandigarh and SCTIMST Thiruvananthapuram, according to current examination information.

The exact availability of courses and seats is governed by the applicable institute-wise seat matrix and admission rules. Candidates should therefore rely on the official AIIMS notifications and seat matrix rather than general estimates circulating online.

How to register

Candidates seeking to appear for the January 2027 session should use the official AIIMS examination portal.

The application process involves completing the required registration, entering personal and academic information, providing internship and registration details, uploading the prescribed images or documents, selecting examination-related options where applicable, paying the fee, and submitting the form.

Candidates should carefully check all information before final submission. Errors in personal details, academic records, category information, or uploaded documents can affect the acceptance of an application.

AIIMS has also scheduled a period from October 17 to October 19 for checking registration status and addressing specified deficiencies. The final status and admit card are scheduled to be released on October 26.

What happens next

The immediate deadline for applicants is October 13 at 5 pm. After the registration and correction process, eligible candidates are scheduled to receive their admit cards on October 26 and appear for the INI CET examination on November 1.

AIIMS has published the registration notice through its official examination portal and advises candidates to follow the information brochure and subsequent notices for the latest instructions.

For applicants targeting the January 2027 postgraduate session, the key point is the application deadline: registration must be completed within the prescribed window rather than simply creating an account on the examination portal.
