Railway Stocks Rally: IRCON Surges 18% as RITES and IRFC Join Market-Wide Rebound
MUMBAI: Indian railway stocks staged a sharp rebound on Wednesday, September 30, with IRCON International leading the move after its shares jumped as much as 18.32% during intraday trading. RITES and Indian Railway Finance Corporation (IRFC) also gained, putting railway-linked counters among the stocks in focus during the session.
The Railway stocks rally came against a broader volatile market backdrop. At 12:21 p.m., IRCON was trading 15.44% higher at ₹118.10, while RITES had gained 11.25% to ₹214.10, according to NDTV Profit.
IRCON Leads The Railway Stocks Rally
IRCON International recorded the strongest move among the major railway counters tracked during the session. The stock climbed to an intraday high of ₹121.05, representing an 18.32% rise from its previous close.
The Ircon share price had opened at ₹102.80, compared with its previous close of ₹102.47. The sharp move placed IRCON among the day’s most closely watched infrastructure stocks.
RITES also moved higher, reaching an intraday high of ₹215.80 after gaining 12.13%. The stock was trading at ₹214.10 at 12:21 p.m., up 11.25% at that point in the session.
IRFC And RailTel Also Gain
The rebound was broader than IRCON and RITES. RailTel rose as much as 8.48% to ₹281.15, while IRFC advanced 4.26% to ₹81.33 during the session.
At 12:21 p.m., IRFC was trading 3.64% higher at ₹80.84. The move brought the IRFC news into focus alongside the stronger gains recorded by IRCON and RITES.
The gains came even as the wider Indian market remained under pressure. The BSE Sensex was up only 0.31% at around 72,789 at the time, showing that the railway counters were outperforming the benchmark during the session.
What Investors Are Watching
The latest Railway stocks rally follows a period of weakness across several railway-linked companies. Investors have been closely watching government railway spending, new orders, project execution and company earnings for potential triggers.
Recent company disclosures have also kept railway infrastructure stocks in focus. RITES, for example, announced a major order from South Central Railway earlier in September, while its latest exchange filings have included updates on corporate and operational matters.
The Ircon share price remains well below its 52-week high despite Wednesday’s sharp intraday recovery. That makes the latest move significant as a one-day market development, but it does not by itself establish a lasting change in the stock’s longer-term trend.
Sharp Gains Do Not Guarantee A Sustained Rally
The IRFC news and broader railway-stock gains are likely to remain closely watched through the rest of the trading session. However, intraday percentage gains can change before the market closes, particularly in volatile shares.
For investors, the key question is whether the buying interest continues beyond Wednesday or represents a short-term rebound after recent weakness. The answer will depend on subsequent price action, company developments and broader market conditions.
