PM Modi Marks 25 Years In Office With Seva Sankalp Celebrations In Delhi
NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday marked PM Modi 25 years in office as head of a government, beginning a day of commemorative events in Delhi and across India. The milestone traces back to October 7, 2001, when Modi became Gujarat Chief Minister, before he went on to become Prime Minister in 2014.
The BJP has organised the month-long Seva Sankalp Abhiyan from September 17 to October 17 to highlight Modi’s 25 years in public life, with programmes focused on service, governance, public participation and the government’s vision of a developed India.
PM Modi Begins Milestone Day In Delhi
Modi began the day by visiting Shri Vinayak Mandir in Sarojini Nagar, New Delhi, where he offered prayers. The Prime Minister said he prayed for the happiness, prosperity and good health of people across the country and for India’s continued progress.
The PM Modi 25 years in office milestone has been accompanied by nationwide events organised under the Seva Sankalp Abhiyan. The campaign has included public outreach programmes, service activities, yatras and events highlighting the Prime Minister’s political journey and the government’s development agenda.
The celebrations also connect with the broader Viksit Bharat goal, which the government has set as its vision for India by 2047. Earlier programmes under the campaign have focused on public participation and communicating government initiatives to citizens.
Delhi Event Highlights 25-Year Political Journey
A central commemorative programme is being held at the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium in Delhi, with Union ministers and senior BJP leaders participating. Modi is scheduled to address the gathering as the country marks the completion of 25 years since he first assumed the leadership of a government.
The milestone comes months after Modi became India’s longest-serving elected Prime Minister in terms of continuous service, surpassing Jawaharlal Nehru’s previous record in June. The Union Cabinet subsequently passed a resolution recognising the achievement.
The campaign’s emphasis on service also follows earlier programmes highlighting major welfare initiatives, including Sankalp for Seva, which focused on the eight-year milestone of Ayushman Bharat PM-JAY.
Seva Sankalp Campaign Reaches Its Culmination
The Seva Sankalp Abhiyan has been running since September 17, Modi’s birthday, and is scheduled to continue through October 17. BJP-led programmes across states have included blood donation drives, cleanliness activities, public meetings, cultural programmes and yatras.
The Seva Sankalp Abhiyan has also been presented by BJP leaders as a way to connect Modi’s 25-year political journey with the broader objective of building a developed and self-reliant India.
According to the Prime Minister’s Office, Modi’s public leadership journey began in Gujarat in 2001 and continued nationally after he became Prime Minister in 2014. The latest celebrations mark the completion of 25 years as head of a government rather than 25 years as Prime Minister alone.
The PM Modi 25 years in office milestone therefore covers his combined tenure as Gujarat Chief Minister and Prime Minister. For the BJP, the occasion has become a national campaign centred on service, governance and the next phase of its Viksit Bharat vision.
