8 Students Die at Diveagar: Pune Coaching Academy Sealed After Licence Check

ALANDI: The Alandi drowning case has taken a new turn after the Alandi Municipal Council ordered the immediate sealing of Winners Academy, a private coaching institute linked to the deaths of eight students at Diveagar beach in Maharashtra’s Raigad district. The action came on Friday, October 2, a day after the Diveagar beach accident claimed the lives of eight 16-year-old students during a trip. According to the Hindustan Times, the civic body’s preliminary inquiry found that the academy had allegedly been operating without the required municipal licence for nearly two years.

Why The Pune Coaching Academy Sealed Action Was Ordered

The Pune coaching academy sealed action was ordered by Alandi Municipal Council Chief Officer Madhav Khandekar after officials examined the institute’s municipal permissions. The civic administration said Winners Academy had not obtained the official licence required for its commercial or educational activities.

Khandekar said a special inquiry committee would also inspect private coaching classes and educational institutions in Alandi to check licences and mandatory safety requirements. The wider inquiry is expected to examine arrangements made for students during educational trips.

What Happened At Diveagar Beach

The Diveagar beach accident occurred on Thursday when students from Winners Academy entered the sea during the outing. Police said the students were swept away after reportedly failing to gauge the depth and strength of the currents.

Local residents and water-sports operators joined the rescue effort after teachers and other students raised the alarm. All eight students were later recovered, and the deaths have prompted scrutiny of the circumstances surrounding the trip.

The Alandi drowning case has also raised questions over what safety information was provided before the excursion. Officials are expected to examine consent documents submitted for the trip, including details about the destination, itinerary and safety arrangements.

Eight Students Were From Alandi Institute

The victims were all 16-year-old students associated with Winners Academy in Alandi and were studying in Classes 11 and 12. The municipal action came one day after the Diveagar beach accident, bringing regulatory scrutiny of the institute alongside the investigation into the deaths.

The Pune coaching academy sealed order applies to the institute because of the alleged licensing violation. The civic body has separately indicated that other coaching institutes and educational establishments will be inspected for compliance.

Inquiry To Examine Safety And Permissions

The Alandi drowning case remains under examination, and the municipal sealing order does not by itself establish that licensing issues caused the students’ deaths. The official inquiry will have to determine whether any safety or supervisory failures contributed to the incident.

For now, the Pune coaching academy sealed action represents a regulatory response to the institute’s reported lack of municipal permission, while the investigation into the Diveagar beach accident continues.
